Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT), located along the western shore of the Soai Rap River on the 40-hectare Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park and 16km from Ho Chi Minh city centre, is a state-of-the-art facility which began operations in October 2009, just two years after construction began.
Phase 1 of the development has two berths (500m) and storage capacity for up to 15,000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) at a time, including 624 refrigerated container plugs.
The continued development of the infrastructure by government authorities includes the recently-completed dredging of the Soai Rap River to a depth of 9.5m, allowing SPCT to serve vessels with a nominal capacity of up to 4,500 TEU to the doorstep of the city. SPCT is able to serve both the intra-Asia and deep-sea trades, further reducing logistics costs for Vietnamese exporters and importers.
The project is an 80:20 joint venture between DP World and Vietnamese state-owned Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (IPC).
